Many elections have been held since the introduction of NOTA, but even then only about 2 to 3 percent voting takes place under it. But, do you know what will happen if this NOTA gets maximum votes? If this happens, will the election be canceled and re-election will be held? Come, today we will tell you what is NOTA and what will happen if it gets maximum votes…

Why was NOTA needed?
Until there was no system of NOTA in the country, then in the election, if someone felt that according to him no candidate was eligible, then those people did not go to vote and in this way their vote was lost. In such a situation, people were deprived of the right to vote. In such a situation, in the year 2009, the Election Commission informed the Supreme Court about its intention to provide the option of NOTA. The full form of NOTA is none of the above.

When did NOTA come?
Later, civil rights organization People’s Union for Civil Liberties also filed a public interest litigation supporting NOTA. After which in the year 2013, the court had decided to give the option of NOTA to the voters. Thus another option NOTA was added to the EVM. In this way, India became the fourteenth country in the world to provide the option of NOTA.

Which countries have NOTA
Before India, NOTA option is available to the public at the time of voting in 13 countries, including USA, Colombia, Ukraine, Russia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Finland, Spain, France, Chile, Sweden, Belgium, Greece and now in this list. India is also included at number 14. Some of these countries are also where NOTA has got the right to reject. Which means that if NOTA gets more votes then the election is canceled and the candidate who knows less votes than NOTA cannot contest the election again.

NOTA in India
If you also think that the election will be canceled if NOTA gets more votes in your country, then you are wrong. NOTA does not have the right to reject in India. Which means that if suppose NOTA gets 99 votes and a candidate gets 1 vote, then the candidate with 1 vote will be considered victorious. After the implementation of NOTA in the year 2013, the Election Commission made it clear that NOTA votes will only be counted but they will be kept in the category of canceled votes. Thus it was clear that NOTA will not have any effect on the election results.
